More practice

Both paintings are 5x7 which,I am finding,is a great size for practice. The bottom painting was done with a palette knife.

Try, try, and try again

Not the best photo of the painting that i am working on. I like the spirit of the painting. I will have to live with it and see how i feel about it in the morning.

Change is a good thing?

This morning i decided i didn't care for the defined shapes in the bottom painting . I worked on the painting keeping that in mind  and i am more satisfied with the feel of the painting at the top, which is a good thing since the bottom painting is gone. I worked with a bigger brush and at times applied and then wiped away the paint, all the while trying to find the painting that exited in my mind's eye. Now off to walk the dogs. Oh and fix my pants,i put them on inside out this morning, in my haste to paint, good thing i didn't go out in public:)

Todays Efforts

A bit of a still life along with a painting. Today i worked on composition, value, and meaningful brush strokes. I need to go back and work on the blue area on the left hand side;i was pushing a lot of wet paint around and needed to be more patient and wait for the paint to dry before adding color. I go back and forth with lost and found edges, lately i seem to be painting defined shapes.

almost there....

Worked a bit more on this painting this morning. I need to work on the left hand corner where i assumed the jazzy stroke was quite painterly, and well, it isn't. Stamens are my nemesis.

More attempts at painting

The first painting needs a bit of polish then it will be complete. The middle painting is completed, though the photo doesn't do it justice. The lights, particularly the whites, are not that prominent. I am still working on the last painting;need to add stamens and darks. All three paintings have been painted over and over transforming into new paintings  with each attempt. I feel it is the only way that i can learn how to paint with acrylics,by taking chances. Happy Holidays! Hoping to post more in DEC.:)

Paintings ...

I have been working on the top painting for a while. I plan on taking it to my painting class on Saturday and ask for direction. I know there is a lot going on but its actually my favorite viewpoint;sitting at  eye level looking into the flowers. The bottom painting, quick and simple but I'm rather distracted by the purple on the tip of the cone-flower i think that shall go. I am,however, feeling more successful in painting this particular type of bloom:)

More re-do

More additions to the wall on my newly renovated back porch. I love this room ;a restful retreat . I am happy with the colors in the Iris. I finally achieved the value that i have been trying for. The cone-flowers are less successful but better than most of my other attempts. The canvas is textured due to the many coats of gesso and the numerous attempts at these flowers. I love cone-flowers, but find them so difficult to paint. I plan on painting them again and again ..... Beautiful fall day in Michigan.

2-redo

My sunflower is completed ,but one could go on forever, adjusting here and there and then OOPS. Tulips is a redo of a painting i found in the closet. It was primarily orange flowers and i struggled with color on this one-trying to find colors that worked together.I think i am finally satisfied.

Where have I been???

Not sure? No posts since July 13th ???
Yikes time to get painting! I painted this painting for my back porch that was just renovated  into  a 3.5 season room;possibly a 4 season room unless we hit the -40 degree temps we had last winter. As for the painting I am not finished with it.I'm not quite sure about the colors and different parts of the painting. I used a palette knife for parts of the petals but something is amiss. I am living with it until I discover what it is that needs to be done.

whimsy

Whimsical flowers on Yuppo. I can't seem to get enough of yuppo and how the watercolor reacts on the paper. It is fascinating and completely different than working on traditional CP paper. I am thinking of cropping the bottom portion of the painting or redoing it. I need to let it sit for a while and then decide.

More Yuppo practice. The bottom tulips didn't photograph well as I would have liked but oh my, Yuppo is fun; the paint pools and swirls and you can move and wipe away what you don't like and start again.

And one more

Oops forgot this one!

Today's practice ... Yuppo!

Inspired by an artist at an art fair i attended yesterday. I saw this transparent colorful work on yuppo and i just happened to have some so today i gave it a try. I remember trying it before when i wanted to control the watercolor;lately i am more inclined to let the watercolor be the boss. Living and learning.

Today's painting practice

I painted these paintings this morning. As i painted my goals were to layer color and NOT to over work the paintings. Luckily i had an appointment which means i had to leave! Perfect for accomplishing my goal:)

Lilies

Lilies again- with a big mistake right in the middle; that occurred when i tried to correct  a leaf that had an odd shape and- oh well .

4th of July paintings

Watercolor water play;seriously trying to see,yet again, what watercolor will do and what it won't do. These paintings are all experiments; hard to believe after so many years i am still discovering the many nuances of the medium.

Paintings

A
A few paintings and drawings that i have been working on. The top painting was a do over from a previous acrylic painting. The watercolor and ink painting is an inspiration for the colored pencil drawing just below it, and other acrylic paintings. The bottom painting is watercolor and gouache. I've been working  on painting  on a daily basis, mostly quick paintings working on color and technique. Watercolor is always a challenge!
